MOOD: Valentine’s Day

St. Valentine may have died for love but love needn’t hurt. See our edit of all that the heart desires this Valentine’s Day.

Tradition has it that St. Valentine was a third century Roman priest who died for love—not for his own, but for the young couples whom he wed in defiance of a decree. Emperor Claudius II forbade young men to marry their loves since it was thought that singletons made better soldiers. Today, the saint’s skull is housed in a glass reliquary in a small basilica in Rome.

In a similar vein, (ahem), sculptor Anish Kapoor said that, “Red of course, is the colour of the interior of our bodies. In a way it’s inside out, red.” Red is the colour of a true love’s heart and perhaps not coincidentally, the Valentino L’Amour Shoulder Bag.
