Opening 18 May 2016 in collaboration with other cultural institutions, the retrospective exhibition is curated with the shoe maestro’s love for art in mind. For him, art and fashion had always been a mutual catalyst, a coexistence that enabled him to create some of the most iconic handmade shoes and leather goods. With an intellect quite modern for his time, he revelled in the realist works of the Pre-Raphaelites, the dynamism of the Futurists and the complexities of Surrealism, in equal parts. Inside the exhibition, expect an impressive archive of clothes, accessories, fabrics and photographs that celebrate his life and captivation with the avant-garde art movements of the 20th century.

Besides his personal collection, other notable pieces to watch out for include an Elsa Schiaparelli dress designed in collaboration with Salvatore Dalì in the ’30s, a photograph installation of Andy Warhol’s “Altered Images” and Keith Haring’s “Fertility”.
