We are all super excited about your new single and music video, “Baby, I’m Jealous”. What was your inspiration behind the lyrics to the song? Was there a particular situation or person that sparked the idea?

Baby, I’m Jealous’ is a song I wrote about embracing my insecurities and how the way social media has made me feels about myself. We are constantly flooded with the highlights of other people’s lives, and at times I find myself comparing my worth and beauty to others. I wrote this song about a real story where I was in a relationship and got up caught in a deep dive on Instagram. I found some shady things on this guys’ Instagram – comments and likes on half-naked pictures of other girls. It really started affecting me and my insecurities. When I got into the studio with Justin Tranter, I told him how I felt about this situation and we wrote about it. Even though it’s a song based off my insecurities, we were able to make it feel empowering.

We love the different time eras you chose to include in the music video. How did you decide to choose those particular ones?

As women, we’ve experienced jealousy in different ways throughout history. I wanted to go back in time and show jealousy throughout the ages. I originally got inspired after I saw Jeremy Scott’s designs for Moschino’s fall/winter collection and wanted to shoot a video in the victorian era. Hannah Lux Davis, the music video director suggested we jump through time and I was down with that!

Tell us a little bit about your new album- Does “Baby, I’m Jealous” reflect the tone of your new album? And what do you hope your fans take away from the album?

My upcoming album is based off my insecurities, I poured my heart and soul into it. I have songs that talk about my mental illness like Sabotage and Break my heart myself, songs about jealousy like Baby, I’m jealous, and songs about me thinking I’m going to mess everything up in my life. I’ve got so many thoughtful songs on this album, it starts fun and then gets a little darker.

Since you reference social media at the beginning of your video, what are your thoughts on social media overall and the pressure and responsibility of influence and leadership?

I love social media but I hate social media. I love being able to talk to my fans but I hate seeing things I don’t want to see. Living in an age of social media makes it so much harder to be in a position of influence. You get put on a pedestal by your followers but reading negative comments about yourself every day can really put you down.

“Meant to Be” was just certified Diamond in August. Who was the first person you called when you got the news?

My mom was the first person I called! I am very close with my family and miss having them here with me for things like this.

You have collaborated with so many artists recently like Doja Cat and Florida Georgia Line. What were the biggest distinctions between the collaborations with FGL and DC? What would be your dream collaboration? And any plans for another country collaboration?

Working with Doja Cat was amazing. She is very talented and funny, and a pleasure to work with. The biggest distinction was probably that Doja and I couldn’t get into the studio together due to the pandemic but we worked on the song over FaceTime. When I worked with Florida Georgia Lina on Meant to Be, we are able to go into the studio and work on the song together.
A collaboration with Beyonce would be a dream come true!

Within the process of developing an album, what’s your favorite step?

Being in the studio writing is definitely my favorite part of the process. I love writing songs, that is my passion and what keeps me going. For this single and upcoming album release, I’ve been more involved than ever in the visuals of photoshoots, music videos, and the overall creative. Aside from creative, I absolutely love touring and meeting my fans all around the world.

We know you have written songs for several artists including Nick Jonas, Eminem, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez. What is your favorite song that you have written?

My favorite song that I have been apart of is definitely “The Monster.” It was my first big leap into the music business as a songwriter and opened so many doors for me. I’m very grateful for those moments.

Looking back to when you first started writing and performing, what you do think has formed you into the artist you are today?

Starting from nothing and working my way up step by step. Getting to work with so many artists I looked up to growing up and learning from them. I’m so grateful for where I am and the things I’ve gotten to experience.

What has been your proudest accomplishment so far in your career?

My proudest accomplishment was Meant to Be going Diamond. It was such a cool moment. I didn’t know there was such a small amount of songs that have earned a Diamond certification!

As times have been tough this year, what challenges have you faced? And what has kept you motivated and inspired?

The biggest challenge has been not being able to tour and not even being able to go into the studio to write with people. Giving myself time to myself, working out and eating
healthy has really helped during this tough year. I’ve also been leaning on music – I’m listening to songs that uplift my mood when I’m feeling down. It’s really important to take
care of yourself and your mental health.

Do you have any other projects in the works in or outside of the music industry?

I actually just landed my first acting role in an upcoming movie called Queenpins and I’m so excited! It’s a crime comedy written and directed by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly.
