What drew you to become a pop musician?

Music has always been my first love and passion. I always loved pop music and was fascinated with pop stars/divas, the queens. Music and songwriting are my way of sharing my emotions and are 100% my therapy and outlet. I can always run to my music to make me feel something and tap into myself. I love sharing that through my music and having my fans connect to me similarly to the icons I admire.

Where did the idea of creating a dance-pop version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” come from?

Well, I always listened to the classic Christmas song during the holidays growing up, so I wanted to put my spin/version on the piece; make it like it was a holiday song for the club and to dance to, but still very festive. It was fun. I wanted to make it my super “Ashleefied”!

What inspires you to create songs that are fun and full of positivity?

I love feeling upbeat and positive. Not every day is like this, but I always try to look at the bright and optimistic side of things. When I am upbeat or even down, music can set my mood. I want people to feel uplifted while listening to my music which inspires me. I’ll just make songs that I’d personally like to hear. I get inspired by living life.

How different was creating “SAUCY” compared to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”?

I created “SAUCY” heavy during the pandemic, so it was completely different but cool at the same time. I co-wrote “SAUCY” over Zoom. It was a completely different creative process; we wrote a new song. Whereas with “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” was a cover/remake.

Your songs have been a source of empowerment for women and those in the LGBTQ+. How do you feel about having a significant influence in helping people gain confidence?

Aw, that means the world. Thank you so much!! I do what I can to help people and the world through my craft, using my platform. I believe that’s what it’s all about.

In what ways are you continuing to spread positivity and love throughout your daily life?

I use my platform and social media sites like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. I try to be as authentic as possible. I think it’s so important to share that nowadays. Simple gestures like complimenting someone or a stranger can spread positivity and love, whether in person or via social media. We need to extend more love and less hate.

You started your Broadway debut at only six years old playing ‘Gretl’ in the “Sound of Music”; how has your background in Broadway helped you as a musician today?

Tremendously! It helps with stage presence to connect with an audience and be able to sing and dance live continuously.

Who are some of your primary music role models?

Madonna, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Post Malone, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, and the list goes on and on.

Who is your dream collaborator?

Ah! I have SO many!! Currently, it’s Lizzo, Latto, Bruno Mars, Swaelee, and Post Malone.

Is there a specific genre or style of music that inspires you?

Everything, to be quite honest!! I just eat, sleep, and breathe music! I like incorporating my style and vibe based on the sounds and genres I’m currently vibing with.

What are some of your hobbies?

I LOVE working out! I’m addicted. Playing sports is fun; I love bowling with friends too. I love skiing, boating, shopping, going to the movies, and just doing fun things.

How do you feel about already accomplishing so much, from charting on the Billboard Dance/Club chart to your single “YASSS” reaching 1 million streams on Spotify?

It’s surreal! I always feel like I’m working towards more goals and new things. It’s just the beginning of many more things to accomplish on my list. I am forever grateful and can’t wait for more amazing things.

What are a few goals you set for yourself to accomplish in the coming years?

I want to become a household name. I dream of having a few top-40 radio hits; I can’t just have 1 LOL!  Going on a world tour, collaborating on a clothing brand and makeup line with some companies, doing more acting roles in film and tv and possibly Broadway again at some point, and so much more! I’m also very creative, so I foresee myself directing or co-directing some of my music videos and delving even more into creative processes as an artist. Co-hosting or hosting an award show someday would be super fun, in addition to being a judge on one of the tv talent shows. There’s just so much I want to do and accomplish!

What type of music can we expect from you in the future?

I always enjoy exciting my fans with what’s next. I get bored often and feel that I’m evolving as an artist. It’ll always be Ashlee but something exciting and new. I will say the few new singles of my project all flow together vibe-wise in one way or another. It’s heightened from what “SAUCY” is.
