Boarding at gate N°5

Chanel ready-to-wear takes to the skies at Paris SS16.

28

Karl Lagerfeld has made a departure from the supermarket aisles that featured in his Autumn Ready-to-wear collection in 2014 and set his sights on the sky. Blue of course, was the colour du jour in denim, midnight and sky. For SS16, he transformed the Grand Palais into an airport terminal complete with check-in counters and departure boards. CHANEL airlines celebrates feminine looks —long skirts, flared and pleated, “fly-away skirts” said the designer.

The iconic suit appeared stripped back. Free from braiding, collars, buttons and pockets it still manages to retain the signature Chanel look. Our travellers wear open booties of silver and transparent plastic, carry on luggage is either the ‘Coco Case’, the clean-lined “absolute bag” or a super sized version of the 11.2. Jackets in cotton tweed are fastened with large silver buttons peeking demurely from their half hidden place.
