Backstage Interview with Stella McCartney at Paris Fashion Week

Ok

Stella McCartney, the most Parisian of British designers, unveiled her Spring/Summer 2016 collection on Monday morning. It was one of bright colours, masculine-meets-feminine silhouettes and vivid texture. We met the designer backstage after the show at the Palais Garnier, her face sparkling with the knowledge of a job well done.

Tell us about the new collection.
It’s a true celebration of summer. An explosion of fun, colours, movements and energy.

The aviator glasses seem to be a key piece of the collection.
We wanted to communicate all that expresses a bold and liberated mind. Oversized aviator glasses with coloured details fit in with the season’s palette. We have them in red, pale pink, white, black and a variety of other colours…

The embroidery and graphic textures definitely caught our attention…
We designed this embroidery “Carnation”, which is new to the brand. It’s on the asymmetrical and long dresses and available in lemon yellow, cobalt, orange and the necessary black and white.

The youthfulness wasn’t just present in the colours and materials but in the music as well…
Yes, it’s fun! Tony Farsides was in charge of the soundtrack. I really wanted this collection to be bold, so the style of music that we chose for the show had to have the same energy as well. The makeup by Pat McGrath also made this youthful energy possible.

What’s next for you?
To continue working on my collection for Fall/Winter 2016. I love my job.
